A Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is a facility that cleans wastewater (sewage) from homes, businesses, and industries using physical, chemical, and biological processes to remove contaminants, making the water safe for discharge into the environment or for reuse, thus preventing pollution and protecting public health. The process typically involves several stages: Primary (screening large solids), Secondary (biological breakdown by microbes), Tertiary (advanced purification like disinfection), and Sludge Treatment (handling solid byproducts).

Key Stages of Treatment
  1. Preliminary Treatment: Removes large debris like rags and grit through screens and grit chambers.
  2. Primary Treatment: Solids settle out in large tanks (sedimentation), forming primary sludge.
  3. Secondary Treatment: Microorganisms (bacteria) break down dissolved organic matter in aeration tanks, followed by more settling.
  4. Tertiary Treatment (Optional): Further purification, often involving filtration and disinfection (e.g., chlorination) for high-quality effluent.
  5. Sludge Treatment: Sludge from primary and secondary treatment is further processed (thickened, digested, dewatered) to reduce volume and stabilize it.

A 300 CMD (Cubic Meters per Day, equivalent to 300 KLD - Kiloliters per Day) STP is a medium-sized facility, often installed in apartment complexes, educational institutions (NMC Nagpur ), hospitals, or medium-sized industrial facilities to treat wastewater on-site and meet environmental regulations.

Key aspects of these projects typically include:-
  • Design Phase: Involves site surveys, obtaining necessary permits (building, environmental clearance), selecting an appropriate treatment technology ( MBBR), and preparing detailed engineering drawings and plans.
  • Procurement Phase: Sourcing and purchasing electro-mechanical components, piping, civil construction materials, and instrumentation.
  • Installation/Construction Phase: Civil works, equipment installation, testing, and commissioning (SITC - Supply, Installation, Testing, and Commissioning).
  • Operation & Maintenance (O&M): Often part of the ongoing contract after successful commissioning, ensuring compliance with treated water quality norms (e.g., BOD ≤10 mg/L, TSS ≤20 mg/L).
